The Last Kingdom was my favorite show of the last years. IMO much better than Game of Thrones. That is until Netflix got a hold of it. Third season was still passable but in the fourth the characters and the themes and the quality, both of the production as well as of the writing took such a plunge that I won't be watching anymore.

There was a balance in the first two seasons, showing the good and the bad of both the christian and the "pagan" ways, but now every good christian is dead. They killed father Beocca even though he lives to the end of the books) and there is no more moral compass in the show. Father Beocca was the heart of the group, who grounded Uthred and kept him sane

while Uthred would push father Beocca towards not being silent when those around would use faith as an excuse for self-serving motives. They were each other's mirror, showing each other their prejudice, their mistakes, their sophistry in regards to what is good and what is wrong.

I came across your post on the main forum page and was intrigued about this show. I don't usually give up my time to watch things for the sake of it as I am very selective. So what can I say, I binged and just finished season 5! For the shame and satisfactory lol
