Abortion Was the Leading Cause of Death Worldwide in 2019, Killing 42 Million People

In 2019, around 42.4 million pregnancies ended in abortion worldwide.

According to Worldometers, which tabulates global statistics on abortion procedures based on the most current available figures from the World Health Organization, 40 to 50 million abortions are performed annually worldwide.

The website notes that in the United States, approximately half of pregnancies are "unintended" with four in 10 ending in an abortion, amounting to over 3,000 abortions being performed every day. Not including miscarriages, 22 percent of all pregnancies end in abortion. Globally, around 125,000 abortions happen every day.

The figures come following an increased push in Southern and Midwestern state legislatures in the U.S. to save lives by setting limits on abortion and enforcing health and safety standards for clinics. Alabama passed a near-total ban on abortion, while progressive states such as New York and Illinois passed laws allowing abortion up until a baby is born. Whereas Louisiana, Georgia Kentucky, Missouri and Ohio passed laws banning most abortions as soon as a preborn baby’s heartbeat can be detected.

The abortion rate in the U.S. has fallen significantly in recent years, a decrease that is attributed to a variety of factors.

From 2014 to 2017, the number of abortions performed in the U.S. dropped from 926,190 to 862,320, a 7 percent decrease and record low, according to data compiled by the Guttmacher Institute.

The means by which abortions are carried out has also changed with medication abortions (abortion pill) increasing from 5 percent of all abortions in 2001 to 39 percent in 2017, even as abortion rates have declined.

Abortion clinics also continue to close around the nation.

The Christian Post reported Dec. 19 that a pro-abortion group called Abortion Care Network released a report titled “Communities Need Clinics” showing the number of independently owned abortion clinics — not including Planned Parenthood facilities — has declined by 32 percent since 2012, with 136 clinics having closed since 2014.

2019 also saw the abortion issue enter the public discussion in a different way through storytelling with the film "Unplanned," which is based on the experiences of former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate Abby Johnson. The film earned $21 million at the box office.

As the 2020 presidential election nears, the debate over abortion will likely animate politics as the Democratic and Republican parties write their platforms at their respective national conventions and as contested state laws are be adjudicated in court.

Every Democratic presidential candidate that remains in the race is on record saying they support taxpayer-funded abortion at the federal level. In response to questions from The New York Times, all of the candidates said they would "codify Roe v. Wade" and "repeal the Hyde amendment," the legislative provision first instituted in 1976 that forbids the use of federal funds through Medicaid or other government entities to pay for abortions. For decades the amendment had notable bipartisan support.

The Democratic presidential candidates also said they would preserve government funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion business.

Later this year, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case of June Medical Services v. Gee, which centers around a Louisiana law requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at local hospitals. The case is the first abortion rights case to be heard since the confirmation of President Trump's nominees, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the high court bench.

Depending on how the court rules, the decision will either uphold or reverse a recent ruling on a similar statute. In 2016, the court handed down a 5-3 decision in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt, striking down a nearly identical Texas law requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic where they practice.

Yet, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, which adjudicates matters from both Texas and Louisiana, has maintained that “stark differences” exist between the factual records in the two cases.

The author of the Louisiana bill, then-state representative and now a state senator Katrina Jackson, who is African American and a Democrat, will be arguing before the Court on March 4 alongside the Office of the Louisiana Attorney General. She will again be featured as a speaker on the main stage of the March for Life on Jan. 24, having also spoken last year from the same stage.

I made this thread..

Because what got me was that people have no problem with abortion....even cheer it..but when it comes down to them..they will do everything they can to save their own lives..like wear masks, stay 6ft apart, crash the economy...I find that so insightful that we have anybody but us mentality. The wages of sin really is death.

42 million is just a soul vexing and utterly unacceptable number and it should evoke incredible contemplation within us of where we are as a society to accept this as a norm. Those babies looked up to their parents to provide love and a future for them, not murder them. Imagine if your mind could contemplate in the womb that your own mother carrying you that is supposed to nurture you is moving forward to take your life. Their arms and limbs are severed and eyes are gouged out during the whole process after being poisoned. They have nerves and nerve endings which means they feel pain. The conscience of the world and even America has truly been seared with a hot iron and as Paul wrote Timothy we are without natural affection.

Yes..its terribly sad to contemplate the poor unborn child who is so helpless in their mother’s wombs...

Jesus did tell us the love of many would grow cold and that lawlessness would increase. So much evil comes from a mother killing her unborn child..it makes the mom’s murderesses and plies them with guilt for the rest of their lives..not to mention how it makes life so much cheaper..if your mom can murder you...life is cheap indeed...very sad.

this is a very biased report and omits the defining features of what abortions actually are, how they are done, why they are done, and the importance of why they exist.
It also omits important factors like facts, scientific facts, even using fake terminology, there is no such thing as pro abortion, its prop choice, also with most abortions happening in the first trimester and in the early stages of pregnancy, there is no life lost, they are equting abortion statistics with deaths, when a high majority will occur before the pregnancy even reaches the stages that would be defined as living, so again showing their direct bias and skewering of facts and figure to fit their agenda.

It also fails to acknowledge the importance of abortions and why they were made legal.

if they wish to debate abortions, fine, do it but like most pro life arguments they have had to use renaming, fakery, misrepresentation and all out lying to try and make a point.
also instead of wasting their time making biased reports that are based on flimsy arguments, why dont they focus on the millions of lives already in existence, there are plenty of children right now in need of help, orphans, homeless, hungry and abused, why not focus on them, and thats just the worlds childhood population, let alone the billions of adults currently in pain and struggling.

Maybe they or you dont want to focus on them, maybe your christian charity ends once a person exits the birth canal, so why not focus on proper, realistic, and scientific sex education, start up charities and funds for free or affordable contraceptives, the fact is communities that have abstinence only education end up with higher statistics of abortions, poverty, teen and unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, compared to communities with comprehensive and realistic sex education. countries with free or affordable contraceptives and free abortions actually find abortion statistics, unwanted/teen pregnancy's, poverty and sexually transmitted diseases are lower than those that practice abstinence only and non affordable options of contraceptives.
Also consider, Countries that experience less religious intervention and interference also enjoy better social care, less teen and unwanted pregnancies, better sexual health, less sexual confusion and less sexually transmitted diseases.
Children who are taught from a young age that sex is not taboo but a part of life, who receive open and honest discussions about sex through their lives, with a good education also experience less abortions and sexually transmitted diseases, not to mention they dont go around with a constant feeling of guilt for having natural feels. maybe look into that.

why not help those already in existence in stead of pushing for women to lose their body autonomy and choice. The fact is history is a great teacher, it has already shown that abortions dont end when they are illegal they instead become unsafe and often deadly for the woman, it also leads to more child abuse and child homicide, there is a reason many countries made abortions legal and safe.

also may i point out to those that use religion, especially those of the Judaeo-christian persuasion, that abortion is not condemned in the bible it is actually in the bible, including instructions on how to cause an abortion, that combined with infanticide, child murder and all sorts of child abuse, so maybe dont use god or jesus as a reason to force women to be birth machines.

Abortion is death..its murder. There is a child being murdered. How do you think people reproduce? Its not a bunch of cells..its a bunch of living cells that come together and start life. Those cells are life starting and growing and living...the more the cells live the more they knit into a human being.

What does the Christian need to do once the baby enters the birth canal? We are just trying to get people to do the right thing and not kill their baby...what do you think our responsibility is after that?

Perhaps instead of educating children that they can have sex with condoms to prevent pregnancy..tell them the truth..if you have sex with someone..you could conceive a baby?

The choice is to have sex or not...not to kill your baby once you conceive...that’s not the choice then.

Women were created to give birth..men can’t do it..so I don’t understand what you’re talking about.
The Bible has a lot of sin in it..it talks about people who sin...

60% of abortions take place within the first 8 weeks of pregnancy while a whopping 40%(almost half) take place afterwards. At 6 weeks a baby already has a brain and nervous system. Even if you hold to the idea that a baby is still technically not a human life before 6 weeks you could argue that about half of babies are terminated at a stage where their brain and nerves are present and in development. If something has nerves that mean it is able to feel sensations of pain, but at that point how can we say something with a brain isn't a living creature? You could chalk it up to around 20 million aborted their babies while there was a brain and nervous system present within them according to the statistics last year alone.

How’s that? I said that we should educate about what sex really is and what happens when you have sex...that’s a good start right there..not say you can have sex without consequences where people then think that the natural conclusion is kill the baby for being conceived...what kind of justice is that? What kind of alright could killing a helpless little baby in its mother‘s womb be? That I don’t understand.

The woman can control her own sexuality in the beginning by not having sex when she’s not ready to be responsible for a child..all women have that option.

Yet Jesus died for us while we were still sinners...He didn’t come to judge but save...the judgement comes later.
Sadly I fear if God will just begin to start handing us over to depraved mind and to our lusts as he did to the Romans in Romans 1.

However...He will keep trying to reach all the unsaved through the tribulation and even through His wrath..but they won’t have it..
They will have Christians they will behead because of the truth...they will have the 2 witnesses and they will have angels

Revelation‬ ‭14:6-7‬ ‭
And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; and he said with a loud voice, “Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters.
‭‭

Revelation‬ ‭6:10-11‬ ‭
and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.

Again your just proving me right " controlling a woman's sexuality" do men not have the same responsibility? Also women don't need to control their sexuality, they need good access to contraceptives, plan b and yes abortions when needed, it's not even near to being A baby in the first weeks, when most women go for abortions, your using emotional manipulation to try and away people.

Men can’t get anywhere if the women don’t let them...so it is the woman’s responsibility right? Her body her choice? Most abortions happen because of inconvenience anyway.

Personal responsibility trumps contraceptives which aren’t 100% effective.

A baby in the first weeks is not even near to being a baby? What? It’s closer than just a sperm or just an egg. When those two meet it starts a new life. Those cells start working right away on creating a brand new life. Someone who has never been on earth before..it’s so incredibly amazing to think about..in nine months a totally new human being will be born because the sperm and egg meet and start that new life and you want to tell me it’s nothing? Are you serious? It’s procreation. You wouldn’t be alive right now if it didn’t happen and you should be thankful that your mom didn’t abort you and you lived. So many babies didn’t get the opportunity to even be born...it’s so incredibly sad that women could be so manipulated that they would think killing their own offspring is good..evil surely rules this world!

There is no point in rebuttal Lisa. It is just a sign of the time that everyone does that which is right in their own eyes. People think they can discern good and evil subjectively and on an individual basis, yet this same pretense will lead to the embracing and practicing of much darker endeavors down the road. Its as I said we will get what we deserve as a society when a few decades down the road children will think much worse is acceptable and the same individuals who now say abortion is morally fine will eat their words when their granddaughter rises up in rebellion toward them when she is on her way to having her third abortion by age 17. If a society is ok at 42 million and wont draw the line in the sand with that then they will accept far worse evil having their conscience seared.

Perhaps it’s a testimony against them? They aren’t going to be able to say before God they never knew.

Mark‬ ‭13:9-10‬ ‭
But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them. The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
‭‭
And who knows..one day maybe this would help someone with making the right choice..God still works in the world today despite the times.

Are you for real? Men can’t get anywhere if a woman doesn’t let him? So r*pe, for example, by your definition doesn’t exist?
Deciding to have a sexual relationship with another person carries equal responsibilities on both sides and absolutely must have mutual consent and respect. Both partners have the right to refuse; both partners have the right to be protected from as sexually transmitted infections and both partners share responsibility for contraception. Incidentally, both partners have the right to enjoy the process, as well, just in case your archaic attitude makes you believe otherwise.
Abortion should never be relied on as a means of contraception. That’s my opinion and that’s my belief, as a Christian. However, I do believe that there will be girls and women who for whatever reason, find themselves pregnant and facing a very difficult choice. I don’t have the right to judge anyone in that situation. I don’t have the right to force them to have a child they don’t want to have or is too dangerous for them to have. I also don’t have the right to force another woman to carry a baby to term, when that baby is going to be unable to survive outside womb.
I certainly don’t have the right to force a woman to seek out an illegal abortion, which puts their life at risk, because the law doesn’t provide protection for them, or their unborn child, under abortion law - and yes, I live in a part of the U.K. where abortion has only just become legal.

Pulling out baby parts, and racking them up as inventory....congratulations u just confirmed her right to choose...

disgusting. U know what I can understand a woman who makes the mistake, but the people who "research" the topic and come to the conclusion, they are pro choice, baffles my mind, take the emotion out of it the answers clear.
