Someone made an interesting point. What is happening in Australia right now is because it’s their winter, and their flu season right now. During our flu season this winter, the exact same things are going to be happening, they’re going to call it the “second wave”. Can you work from home on the other days? If so, I see no problem with it. If they weren’t capable of performing their job in a different manner then it would be one thing, but they are. My son was in cyber school for years before any of this happen. I’m doing my masters degree entirely virtually because there are no schools with the program I need near where I live. It isn’t like they aren’t working - it’s harder to properly teach and manage a classroom virtually then in person. It’s more work.

I think they do know what they’re doing... how germs and diseases spread like wildfire in a school setting is most obvious to the people who work and spend every day there. One kid gets lice or bronchitis and half the school has it within a week. There’s literally no way for me to manage my client or for the teacher to manage his classroom in a way that reduces risk of transmission, he sneezes in my face, wipes his snot on his hands and then wipes his hands on me. Older grades I think are a different story entirely and have different considerations. But the young ones? Every teacher I know is just being realistic - especially the ones in special education, and we are 100% aware that it’s a really shitty decision any way you look at it because some things don’t translate virtually especially for this population.
