Palestinian media has reported that Hamas fighters have taken Israeli captives and taken them back to Gaza.

Footage published by Hamas' military wing the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades showed that fighters have taken over an Israeli military site.

Other footage showed a destroyed Israeli tank.

According to Reuters, the Israeli military was aware of reports of captives, a security source said, but provided no further details.

This is a ‘war against invaders’: Hamas spokesperson tells AJ
Khaled Qadomi, the spokesperson of Hamas tells Al Jazeera that the operation of the Qassam Bridages, is a signal not only to Israel but also the international community that Palestinians are only defending themselves in response to all the atrocities they have been facing in recent years.
“We want the international community to stop atrocities in Gaza, against Palestinian people, our holy sites like Al Aqsa. All these things are the reason behind starting this battle,” he said.
Asked whether Hamas had taken Israeli soldiers and civilians hostage, Qadomi said: “They are not hostages. They are prisoners of war.”
He added that the Israeli settlers are also occupiers and according to international law, they are invaders.
“So the situation today is a war against invaders,” he said.

I don’t believe in war and as a christian I really shouldn’t feel this way but if everyone world wide joined together and blew isreHELL off the face of the earth peoples lives world wide would be a lot better instantly.

Te federal banks would be gone for a start.

There's a lot of talk about 'how was this possible' and i think that's a very valid question. This is unprecedented and the carnage that's about to befall the Palestinians is also going to be unprecedented.

What a major development. My heart goes out to all the innocent people caught in the middle of this conflict. Though it's easy to get swept away in our emotions, we must remember that most of the people killed or injured today had absolutely no say in the events leading up to this attack. I know if America was invaded there would be people across the world cheering on our demise. Yet, most of the folks I know are just trying to get by to feed our families, trying to survive. We have no influence over the actions in which our corrupt governments facilitate and participate. Prayers for all the suffering folks of Israel and Palestine.

The Israeli military spokesperson has said Palestinian fighters infiltrated Israeli cities through land, air and sea in the ongoing assault.

According to the Ynet news website, the spokesperson said small vessels came from the sea, paragliders landed from the air, and dozens of fighters entered through the fence separating Israel from Gaza after using explosives to destroy the barriers.

The spokesperson said they suspect other fighters might have entered through tunnels.

The headquarters of the Israeli military's Gaza division has been taken over by Palestinian fighters of the al-Qassam Brigades, an Israeli military spokesperson has said.

"The headquarters of the Gaza division in camp Ra'im is under the control of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam brigades," the spokesperson said.

According to Israeli media, he added that fighting inside the base is in full swing to retake it.

The Israeli army has not gained control of any of the locations Hamas fighters infiltrated in southern Israel, according to Haaretz newspaper.

The Israeli publication said that residents reported being still in shelters without any Israeli security forces or medical staff on site.

– Gaza: 35 killed and over 160 wounded.
– Khan Younis: 45 killed and over 180 wounded.

– Central Gaza: 29 killed and 311 wounded.
